Kinistino Wins National Competition
The Town of Kinistino is the winner of the Up to 1,000 population category in the Communities in Bloom National Competition.
They received 5 Blooms – Bronze and a special mention for Floral Displays during the 2015 National Symposium and Awards Ceremonies in Kamloops, BC. The Town of Kinistino competed against Arnold’s Cove NL, Clinton BC and Valhalla Centre AB.
Over the summer, trained volunteer judges travelled to participating communities to evaluate the overall contributions of municipal council and departments; industry; businesses and the private sector – including volunteer efforts – in regards to the following criteria: Tidiness, Environmental Action, Heritage Conservation, Urban Forestry, Landscape and Floral Displays.
Following their evaluation, volunteer judges Bonita Lundberg and Roger Younker wrote: “A vibrant burst of color greets residents and visitors when entering the Town of Kinistino, Saskatchewan. The vibrant pink shades of petunias are evident everywhere, from the welcome signage to the baskets – 32 this year!, to barrels and castle planters that line the streets and welcome visitors to store fronts and private dwellings. Business owners and residents sponsor the barrels, and the Communities in Bloom committee completes the plantings and provides maintenance and watering. The display throughout Kinistino is both breathtaking and remarkably uniform. New this year, ten castle planters are placed in prominent locations, for added Bling. Congratulations – the ‘Bloom’ in CiB is alive and well in Kinistino!”
