Prince Albert and District Chamber of Commerce Responds to Domtar Sale

Mar 8, 2011 | 1:08 PM

Re: Domtar sale to Paper Excellence.

The Prince Albert & District Chamber of Commerce is truly excited for a returning forest industry to Prince Albert.

With a minimum of 200 new jobs and many other related jobs to occur, this announcement is “par for the course” for a great 2011.

The restructuring of the mill will require over $200 million in investment with significant employment needed to get the mill operational. Once operational, it is expected that over 200 careers will follow which does not include the spin-off jobs associated with a revitalized forest industry.

The Chamber would like to thank Premier Brad Wall, Minister Darryl Hickie, Minister Boyd, MLA Nadine Wilson, and His Worship Mayor Jim Scarrow for their continued efforts in making the Prince Albert Mill a priority.

We would also like to extend thanks and congratulations to members of CEPU local 1120 and President Anibal Bravo for their leadership in the acquisition process as well as the Agency Chiefs, Tribal Council, and the Montreal Lake Cree Nation for their involvement in the project.

The Prince Albert & District Chamber of Commerce looks forward to a long and prosperous working relationship with Paper Excellence.  We are optimistic that all conditions will be met and we will have another great income source for the residents of this great city.

Sincerely,

Bergen Price BA

Chief Executive Officer
