Musher News

Gerry Walker of Pierceland won the two-day 2011 Neckbone today for at least the third time! Quincy Miller of La Ronge came second, running one of Gerry’s teams. Third was Joël Potié of Saskatoon, running a team from the Akela’s Den kennel of Christopher Lake.

Congratulations to young mushers Emma Smallwood and Ragnar Robinson, who both completed the race, in 8th and 10th positions respectively; unfortunately for us, both are on the provincial cross-country ski team and will be representing the province in Halifax during Challenge week.

Stefaan de Marie of Christopher Lake came fourth, while Miriam Körner of La Ronge was 6th.
Gerry’s winning time over the two day, 120-mile event was 12 hours 5 minutes 15 seconds (sometimes seconds count, although not this time. Quincy was 5 minutes and 47 seconds behind him!).

In all, eleven mushers started the race, with 10 teams finishing. Many are already entered for the Challenge, including Karen Ramstead of Alberta (5th) along with Richard Todd of Lincoln, England (7th), who is running one of Karen’s teams. Sid Robinson took 9th place.
