Climbing the Rock – a Program for Teens Exposed to Interpersonal Violence

»        Assist teens in understanding aggression, abuse and violence.

»        Support teens to develop healthy, positive social skills.

»        Develop healthier beliefs about themselves and others.

»        Provide access to counseling services as well as access to recreational and mentoring opportunities.

»        Provide tools for coping more effectively with anger.

»        Raise public awareness on the negative impact of violence on teens.

»        Outreach to communities to support families in need of this service.

 

 The program uses a variety of weekly activities that are designed to improve self-esteem, help young people make positive life choices, avoid unhealthy situations, and reduce personal and environmental risk factors that may lead to further exposure to violence.

Weekly Schedule:

Week 1 – Introductions

Week 2 – Violence in Media & at Home

Week 3 – Abuse and Self-Esteem

Week 4 – Avoiding Unhealthy Situations

Week 5 – Gang Awareness & saying NO

Week 6 – Coping with Aggression

Week 7 – Communication Skills

Week 8 – Interpersonal Problem Solving
