Christmas Is a Time for Giving

Dec 14, 2010 | 3:18 PM

We are now accepting donations of new and/or clean used outdoor winter wear (coats, boots, mitts, scarves, etc)for children ages 13 and under. All items that are donated will be passed on to a local project in the area of our school. This will be Rivier's way of showing a little Christmas spirit. Please help keep some of our local children warm.

Rivier Academy SLC: has chosen to make a donation to the Prince Albert Safe Shelter for Women. The money donated will be used to purchase toys, books and games from Discovery Toys. All of the products will be given to the children of the women who are staying at the shelter this Christmas.

Recently in the news, a young cancer patient by the name of Kaila Berg died at the age of 18. Kaila was from Shellbrook and some of you may know her and her Family. Kaila was one of the 12 people chosen from Saskatchewan to be sent by the Chris Knox Foundation to attend the CFL Championship this year.
The Chris Knox Foundation was established in memory of a lifelong Rider Fan who got to see his favorite team win the Grey Cup in Toronto in 2007.
“The mission of the Chris Knox Foundation is to facilitate opportunities for young individuals with cancer, thirty years of age and under, to attend sporting and cultural events within the province of Saskatchewan (Chris Knox Foundation).”
Some of the classmates in the 8I classroom knew Kaila’s family and we as a class approached Sr. Mary to have a non-uniform day to support the Chris Knox Foundation. Our class will have to pay ten dollars to be out of uniform, you if you choose to support the foundation will only have to pay $2- however if out of the goodness of your heart you would like to donate more we will gladly accept all donations.
The money raised will be donated to the Chris Knox Foundation in memory of Kaila Berg on behalf of Rivier Academy. A card with a Christmas gift will also be sent to the Berg family with a note saying that a donation has been made in her memory.
THANK YOU to all who gave to the Chris Knox Foundation. Total amount raised was $584.00. $315 was from the 8I class & Mrs. Trumier. Grade 12's,awesome job too you as well as your class brought in$83. Way to go girls, you gave well above your minimum $2 donation. Therefore, as a school, we will donate $300 to the Chris Knox Foundation and a basket worth $284.00 will be sent to the family of Kaila Berg.
