Saskatchewan minor hockey teams score big with Western Hockey League

Minor hockey players from 10 teams across Saskatchewan will soon have the opportunity to watch Western Canada’s elite junior hockey athletes play live at a WHL game as part of the SaskEnergy Western Hockey League Youth Experience contest.

“SaskEnergy is very proud of this initiative where we have partnered with the SHA and WHL to send young hockey players to see exciting live hockey action,” said Shannon Doka, Community Involvement Leader, SaskEnergy. “This contest has created a unique teambuilding opportunity to connect more than 26 rural minor hockey teams since 2010 to a WHL game.”

Nearly 200 minor hockey teams entered the contest this year, and the winning teams are:

Hillmond Pee Wee Hurricanes, Englefeld/Quill Lake Bantam Stars, Kincaid Pee Wee Rustlers,Central Butte Atom Flyers, Gravelbourg Pee Wee Stars, Melfort Pee Wee Mustangs, Fort Qu’Appelle Bantam Female Flyers, Nipawin Atom Black Hawks, Arcola/Lampman Pee Wee Combines, and Herbert Junior Novice Hawks.

The contest is held in conjunction with SaskEnergy Hockey Weekend which will be holding its 6th annual province-wide event from January 18th to 20th, 2013. Hockey Weekend is dedicated to celebrating and promoting the game of hockey throughout Saskatchewan while also serving to strengthen community spirit.

“The Prince Albert Raiders are excited and proud to partner with SaskEnergy to bring some regional minor hockey teams to Raider games,” said Bruce Vance, Raiders Business Manager/Director of Marketing. “SaskEnergy Hockey Weekend is a major event and we are happy to celebrate it with 2 teams that will have an inside look at the Raiders before a WHL game!”
