Children's Charter – Donna Strauss from the Early Learning Council presented the Prince Albert Children's Charter. She provided details on the background to this charter (aligned with the United Nations Charter, but with a Prince Albert perspective) Donna elaborated on the following 8 areas that Prince Albert has deemed as necessary for the health and wellbeing of children:
1. The right to have basic needs met
2. The right to be safe
3. The right to be themselves
4. The right to belong
5. The right to loving relationships
6. The right to lifelong learning
7. The right to play and be physically active
8. The right to contribute
Donna will be sending more information and links to the full charter so that you can print it off to post. She urged all of us to use this charter as a planning tool and implement these elements in our everyday dealings with children in the workplace and at home. It is not good enough to just post it on the wall and not refer to the intent of the charter.
