It’s a new year! You vow to take better care of yourself. You see signs of aging starting. You know there are options out there. What to do?

Yes, some skin care products like cleansers, moisturizers, and serums can make a visible difference to your skin. There are so many brands out there and they all make such big promises. Which one should you believe?

Yes, some home devices can also make a visible difference to your skin but most companies don’t explain the technology in a way you can understand. What if it doesn’t work?

Anti aging and Excellent Exilis

December 27, 2012 - 9:47am

You are in your 30s or 40s and you’ve started to notice signs of aging. Maybe you are in your 50s and 60s. You look in the mirror and think ‘How I look and how I feel don’t match! I feel so young but I look angry or tired.’

I’m 43 years old and I damn proud that I’ve made it to 43. There are many people who have not had that privilege. For me, the goal is not to try to fool people into thinking I’m 23. The goal is to look great for my age.

Personally, I like wrinkles. I think they are beautiful and, dare I say it, sexy.

Cold laser photofacial can reduce redness

December 20, 2012 - 8:15am

Many people have facial redness or rosacea. Rosacea can be itchy or painful. Often rosacea includes small pustules that may be mistaken for acne. Rosacea skin can be easily upset by poor skin care and can be very sensitive or even painful.

Whether you suffer from rosacea or simply have skin that blushes and flushes easily, cold laser can help.

Cold laser or Low Level Laser is the most gentle laser treatment available. It reduces inflammation and that means skin calms down and becomes less upset and red.

Some of you are seeing your skin flush bright red as you come inside from the brutal cold of the last week and wondering “Why are my cheeks so red?” It could be that you have rosacea.

Having a nice neck

November 8, 2012 - 8:31am

My mother once said to me that the real way to tell a person’s age was to look at their neck and hands. The neck gets a lot of sun exposure and this is one of the leading causes of premature aging. Many women wear makeup and lotions on their face. Often these have a little bit of spf in them to protect from sun. Even if they don’t, the barrier they create can reduce the effects of the sun.

However, most people forget about their necks when it comes to makeup or creams or sun protection. The skin on this part of the body is delicate and therefore is more likely to sag.

As much as we are taught not to judge a book by its cover, the truth is we often judge our own self by our own cover. When we look in the mirror and we like what we see, we feel good. When we look in the mirror and aren’t pleased, we tend to beat ourselves up and feel bad.

Whether it’s acne or rosacea, aging or sun damage, there are things you can do to look better. There is a strong connection between our emotional wellbeing and our physical appearance. When you look better, you feel better. Here are some different strategies.

Microdermabrasion helps acne and more

October 17, 2012 - 9:58am

Microdermabrasion is a non-surgical and non-chemical way of exfoliating the skin. It is used on the face for anti aging or to reduce hyperpigmentation or sun damage. It is also very useful for oily skin, acne, blackheads, acne scarring and enlarged pores.

Traditional microderm mimics sandblasting. A grit is blown on to the face and then suctioned off. Sometimes sand particles can remain on lips or eyelids. On occasion people can have a reaction to the grit.

Cold laser helps acne/oily skin

October 11, 2012 - 11:17am

Last week we talked about acne and how carefully chosen products can actually make a difference. Another way to help calm and clear acne is with cold laser treatments.

Cold laser works in the skin. It kills acne p vulgaris bacteria deep in the tissue. It reduces inflammation and speeds healing. It also regulates the production of sebum or skin oil.

Both men and women are feeling the effects of hair loss, like never before. Even young men and women in their late teens and early twenties are experiencing hair loss. There are several theories as to why this is happening so much. Some think it’s to do with hormones in our food supply. Others think it’s because of our hectic pace and stressful lifestyles. Whatever the reason, there are treatments and products that not only slow hair loss but can even reverse it.
