Jawline acne

March 28, 2013 - 3:01pm

Acne is on the increase. Both males and females are experiencing acne more often and for longer periods in their lifetime. The age that acne usually goes away at used to be late teens or early twenties. Now we have people who have acne in their 30s and 40s. Most of the acne sufferers past their late twenties are women.

There’s a reason for that.

Exfoliating – too much?

March 21, 2013 - 10:32am

Read magazine articles about skincare and they repeat the same command to exfoliate regularly. Let’s take a closer look at exfoliation.

Exfoliating is anything you do to remove dead skin cells. Anything. A wet face cloth or microfiber cloth rubbed over your face, exfoliates your skin. Rubbing your skin dry with a towel also exfoliates your skin.

What is a Night Cream Anyway?

March 13, 2013 - 10:21am

What is a night cream? Is there anything to this or is it just another cream I have to slop on my face at night time?

Many years ago, there were very few face cream options. How many of you can remember your grandmother wearing cold cream like Noxema? Those creams were only worn at night because they were simply too heavy to be worn during the day. This is how the concept of a night cream originally developed.

Today there are real night creams but many people don’t understand why. It all comes down to a clinically proven, fabulous cosmetic ingredient called Retinol.

Microcurrent Lifts and Firms Face at Home

March 7, 2013 - 12:11pm

Microcurrent has been used by physiotherapists for decades in muscle re-education. It’s been used for patients recovering from car accidents and sports injuries and work related traumas. In the past decade, someone had a good question: “Why aren’t we using this on our faces to look younger?” It’s true. Your facial muscles sag. It makes us look tired or even angry. And old. Remember, your face is the only part of the body where the skin and muscles are attached. That’s why we can make facial expressions. So when those facial muscles sag, your skin goes with them.

Brown sugar and olive oil hand scrub

February 27, 2013 - 11:32am

My mom used to say the way to tell a person’s real age is by looking at their neck and their hands. Now that we have skin tightening procedures like Exilis that get a great result on the neck, I’d go with the hands as a better indicator of age.

Our hands are so under-loved. Think of how many times you register that your hands feel dry or tight or even chapped and you still don’t stop and take 30 seconds to put some lotion on to soothe and hydrate them.

Hands, take a stand! Demand the ever so easy but oh, so effective, brown sugar and olive oil scrub.

Botox is a word that furrows as many brows as it smoothes. It’s a controversial topic. Many people have strong opinions for or against it. My opinion, as always, is to know the facts so you can make your own confident and educated decision. My experience has been that many people don’t know the facts.

Botox is a brand name for a neuro toxin. Another brand name of the same thing is Dysport. This neuro or nerve toxin is derived from the same bacteria that causes botulism (“botch choo lism”). Botulism is food poisoning.

Stress, Sun and Smoke Sabotage Skin

February 14, 2013 - 11:23am

Did you know your skin is an organ, just like your stomach or pancreas? Did you know it’s the body’s largest organ? Part of its function is to keep out invaders like bacteria. We need it to be healthy and we like it to look good in the bargain.

The worst things for your skin’s appearance all start with the letter ‘s’. They are stress, sun, and smoking. I like to add in a fourth ‘S’ word – Sleep or more specifically, a lack of it.

We’ve all seen someone whom we know is under extreme stress and we’ve noted that they looked like they’ve aged 15 years.

There are so many skin care products out there! All the different pieces can be overwhelming. What do you do with it all?

Here is the most effective order in which to use your products, so you can get way more out of them.

Step one: Wash your face. PAT dry, do not rub dry.

Step two: Now is the time to apply your eye cream and serums. Use wet fingertips. It’s a proven fact that damp skin absorbs way better than dry skin. Give your eye cream and serum up to five minutes to absorb. Brush your teeth or dry your hair.

Save Your Hairline

January 31, 2013 - 9:21am

I’m 43 years old. Something I’ve learned in the past couple years is that hairlines move. They migrate north. Men or women, just like the polar ice cap, hairlines recede.

Need proof that it happens to everyone? Google a celebrity in their 40s for recent images and images of them back in the 80s or 90s and compare the hairline. Yup, even famous people’s hairlines move.
