The Easter and Skin Connection

April 11, 2017 - 2:58pm

I love Easter. Of course I do; I’m part Ukrainian!

Part of Easter means I get to eat terrific, traditional Easter breads, just like my Baba used to make.

Let’s talk about some Easter treats and how they impact skin.

Easter eggs... I painted Easter eggs as a kid. I hated it!  Man, was I brutal. No delicate, awe inspiring works of art from these hands. Eggs are good for your skin. Eggs are a great source of protein and skin loves and needs protein. The body needs protein in the diet in order to make collagen.

Pull that Sunscreen Out of the Fridge

March 30, 2017 - 7:49am

Spring has sprung. Shorts and sandal season is just around the corner. If you’ve passed on the sunscreen through the winter months, I can’t say I blame you. I don’t spend time outdoors in the winter. When I do, it’s running from car to house or car to work and not much else.

Being in the middle of Canada, in the middle of winter, in my opinion, means, we can pass on the sunscreen.

Of course, if you’re being active outdoors while you walk the dog or head out on the snowmobiles, that’s different. Slap on the sunscreen.

Spring Skin Checkup

March 22, 2017 - 2:17pm

Spring has just sprung. Book a time to get those winter tires off. Just as we make seasonal adjustments to our vehicles, it’s a great time to book a Spring skin checkup.

Soon you’ll be spending more time outdoors. Remember to start wearing a sunscreen. Make sure it’s full spectrum protection – this means from both UVA and UVB rays. Look for Dermatologist created formulas. They cost more but they feel and perform much better.

Stretch You Skin Care Dollars Further

March 15, 2017 - 5:28pm

Everyone wants to save money. Good quality skincare products are expensive but they don’t have to be costly.

Here are some simple tips to help your skincare dollars go further.

Commercials lead us to believe that we have to goop stuff on. I actually call this ‘scooping and gooping’ and I see the suggestions on TV all the time. Toothpaste is guilty; the ad will show a big, glistening S shaped swoosh on a toothbrush. It looks like half a teaspoon! Too much.

Almost Spring Self Care

March 8, 2017 - 2:06pm

It’s so cold today.  It’s going to be even colder tomorrow.  In its final days, Winter is not leaving with dignity and its head held high.  No, Winter is pitching one final fit.

It’s March 8th and all I can think about is Spring. It is so close and yet so far away.   My current obsession prompted me to do this internet search:  Spring is the time for:

I really liked two of the search results that came up:  Spring is the time for plans and projects and Spring is the time for new beginnings.  Both sound good to me.

Skin Care is for Dudes

February 22, 2017 - 7:03pm

On CKBI AM radio this past Tuesday, Chris, Teena and I talked skin care tips for guys. Chris’ skin care tip was never to touch your face after eating Doritos. I had to agree.

But there’s more to it than that.

Guys’ faces age. They break out. They get irregular pigment and uneven skin tone. They get sun damage, or blackheads and big pores, or dry and sensitive skin.  The list goes on and on.

Just like never touching your face after eating Doritos (or Cheetos; Chris added them to his list), don’t use body products on your face.

Champagne for Valentine’s Day and for Beautiful Skin

February 9, 2017 - 4:09pm

Champagne isn't just for Valentine's Day and celebrating life's milestones and accomplishments.

It's for the BATHTUB.

I knew that there were health benefits in drinking Champagne. When I read Health.com's article called "Toast to Bubbly's Big Benefits" I also learned about some of the skin benefits of drinking Champagne.

The article also explained that these skin benefits can also come from sitting in it! Try this fantastic bathtub recipe from Kristin Fraser, founder and CEO of The Grapeseed Company.

Keep Lips Valentine’s Day Worthy in Winter

January 19, 2017 - 10:05am

Somewhere in Saskatchewan, there is a man who has a tattoo of my lips on his chest. True story. (Not Shown Here)

Here's how to keep your lips lovely, kissable and even, dare I say, tattoo worthy: the high quality skincare products you put on your face can go on your lips. Use serums and creams that have Vitamin C, Vitamin E, Co Enzyme Q10. Avoid topicals with Glycolic Acid or Retinol.

The skin on your lips is some of the thinnest skin on the body. We need to build it up and thicken it, so to speak, not make it thinner.
