Easter Eggs, Chocolate and Skin

Mar 30, 2016 | 9:56 AM

When I think of Easter, I think of painted eggs and chocolate.  Which one is good for skin and which is bad?  The answer might surprise you.

Let’s talk about the famous egg white mask. The egg white mask is simply beaten egg whites applied to the face and left on until dried. The claims are that it tightens skin. Some people love the way their skin looks afterwards: smooth and soft. They rave about it.

Other people?  Not so much. Unfortunately, it can cause pimples. It can irritate skin and leave it red.

Chocolate is not good for skin, right?  Actually, if you indulge in dark chocolate with at least 70% cocoa, it’s very good for your skin.

Truly dark chocolate has antioxidants in it. When you think of antioxidants, think anti aging.

Cocoa is high in protein, fiber, and micronutrients. It fills us up and makes us feel satisfied. It actually takes away sugar cravings. This is good because foods high in sugar don’t support great skin.

High cocoa content chocolate also reduces stress hormones. That’s great news for skin.

So, for great skin, proceed with caution with egg white face masks and when it comes to dark chocolate, eat up!
