Tips at Home to Calm Facial Redness

Mar 16, 2016 | 4:24 PM

This past Monday, Neil and I talked about facial redness and rosacea.

Did you know rosacea is called Curse of the Celts’?  It’s a common problem for those of Northern European ancestry.  In Scotland and Ireland, overly rosy cheeks and red faces are extremely common.

If you are experiencing facial redness, here are some things you can do at home, to help.

Greek yogurt.  Eat it.  Wear it.  If you were to pop by my house, unannounced, you might find my smiling face slathered in yogurt.  It feels soothing, it’s very anti aging, and it cools and calms inflammation.  Skin looks great – after you wash it off!  Use plain greek yogurt.  Do not use nonfat.

There is a proven connection between compromised intestinal flora and facial redness or acne.  Get a multi spectrum probiotic.  You want as many strains as possible.  Take one capsule with or without a meal, once or twice a day.  Some of my clients have done this and have actually noticed a reduction in their facial redness or acne.

Do not use hot water on your face.  Use Lukewarm or even cool water on your face.  Skip the facecloth and the microfiber cloth.  They just aren’t friends to your skin type.  And skip the grit cream as well.  You can’t rub redness away.  Any kind of rubbing and scrubbing can make it worse.

In skincare products, avoid glycolic acid.  Red skin doesn’t benefit from exfoliating serums, creams, toners, or cleansers.  Look instead for products that have vitamin c, peptides, and green tea. These will help reduce redness and inflammation.  They are all also proven anti aging ingredients.

If you are looking for more intervention, book in for a full Cold Laser treatment.  Results has the only cosmetic grade cold laser in Prince Albert.  It feels nice, it reduces redness, and it’s anti aging besides.  What a nice side benefit.
