Employment Numbers Strong in Prince Albert

Nov 25, 2015 | 9:08 AM

According to Statistics Canada, Prince Albert has seen consistent increases in the number of people working compared to 2014. In October of this year there were 1,500 more jobs than the previous year, an increase of 7.2 per cent. In fact, Prince Albert has seen steady employment increases since July 2015. It is an excellent indicator of a strong, stable economy.

These statistics support what I have been hearing through recent one-on-one conversations with local business and industry leaders. As a government, we have been working to encourage economic growth by creating a favourable business climate. One of the ways to do that is to remove obstacles so that existing business can expand and new businesses can be established.  Business creates employment and training opportunities which citizens can choose to benefit from.

Saskatchewan people continue to find opportunity, despite challenges like the drop in the global price of oil and an unprecedented wildfire season. They are continuing to build our economy with a confident optimism. Finding opportunity, in spite of challenges, is what Saskatchewan business people do best.

They are able to do this because our province does not rely on any one sector for its stability. Saskatchewan’s economy is built on a diverse commodity base. Additionally, there are many infrastructure projects underway throughout Saskatchewan, which will continue to boost our economy over the next few years.

Prince Albert and area, and the north, will continue to benefit from this careful, measured approach to economic matters by our government. It is keeping Saskatchewan strong.

What is Your Wildfire Story?

We want to ensure that we hear from people who experienced the evacuation of their communities during the 2015 northern wildfires.  The province is still accepting submissions for the Review of the 2015 Saskatchewan Wildfires Response. The deadline for submissions and online survey completion is December 15, 2015.

It is important for us to listen to those affected and see if and where improvements can be made. Please share your story.

The online survey can be accessed at saskatchewan.ca/haveyoursay. Hard copies of the survey will be made available at all northern municipal and band offices as well as the Northern Municipal Services Office in La Ronge.

Written submissions and letters will also be accepted.  Send to:
