Visiting Peru is an amazing opportunity to see a part of the world that is legendary and unique. Imagine sitting in the vista dome train to Machu Picchu, Sacred Valley and Cusco. Put this wonderful destination on your bucket list as it will be an experience of a lifetime and forever in your memory bank.

Begin your journey in Lima, Peru and begin the cosmopolitan vibe of the city by venturing out on a walking tour. Begin in the old city quarter which boasts the city’s original colonial architecture over many centuries ago.

There is the Government Palace where the President resides and the famous Baroque-style cathedral. First built in 1535, the building began as a rustic and basic constructed of mud and hair! It has since been embellished with some impressive furnishings like intricately carved choir stalls, delicately vaulted ceilings and a checkerboard floor.

See one of Lima’s finest historic mansions and view the incredible architecture while enjoying some typical Peruvian food. Lima has to become one of South American’s culinary hot-spots. Nowadays, tourists from all over the world travel to Lima for their cooking courses on traditional and international dishes. As you can imagine there are many wonderful restaurants for you to try the cuisine and enjoy the intricate flavours.

Shopping is always a fun activity in a different culture. Look for clay pottery or the fabulously woven alpaca rugs to bring home. On a free day take an excursion to the Peruvian Paso Horse Breeding and training ranch. It is a picturesque setting straight out of the movies! It is often used for just that purpose. There is a show and demonstration of the Paso horses. You are encouraged to tour the barns and paddocks and even invited to go for a ride. Finish off with a five course meal under the bougainvillea arbour. What a fabulous way to finish up your Lima visit.

The Sacred Valley is a lush valley in the Andres located close to Cusco. It is referred to as the “Valley of Yucay”. The valley is formed by the Urubamba River. There are numerous valleys, gorges and villages. It is also referred to as the heartland of the Enca Empire. It is one of the most important areas for maize production in Peru. They began farming in the 1400’s. The valley has long been recognised for its special geographical and climatic qualities. The altitude here is around eight thousand feet so it will help you become acclimatized to the high altitudes.

Take a wonderful train journey from the Sacred Valley to the world famous ruins of Machu Picchu. The ruins stand approx. twelve thousand feet above sea level, in the midst of the tropical rainforest. This Unesco World Heritage Site has been described as a unique testimony to the Inca civilization. Machu Picchu can only be described as an awe-inspiring sanctuary and leave you with an abundance of lasting memories.

Travel to Quito where you can begin your Amazon cruise. These river cruises are on small boats of approximately twenty eight guests. The boat is selected to purposely navigate the narrow tributaries of the Amazon River. This incredible journey will take you through Rio Ucayali known for its dense jungle and greatest diversity of plant and animal life on Earth! On board is a team of expert naturalists who will share their insight into this rich and ecosystem.

They will help you identify the incredible gray and pink river dolphins, which often swim alongside the boat. Look for the three-toed sloth, hawks, kites and turkey vultures gliding overhead in the constant search for food in the shallows. Meet the local river people who have inhabited the shores of the Amazon for generations. Many raise thousands of butterfly species to support the Amazon ecosystem.

Look for howler monkeys, beautiful macaws and the rare electric-blue morpho butterfly while walking on a canopy walkway through the Amazonian rainforest.  These vessels are also equipped with small excursion boats, ideal for travelling into the most remote reaches of the Upper Amazon. See huge water lilies on the rivers and delicate orchids growing in the jungle.

This once-in-a-lifetime adventure can only be described as incredible! Put it on your bucket list and take a vacation that is totally unique and culturally stimulating.
