Downtown Renovations

Jan 11, 2015 | 9:33 AM

As everyone in this great city has noticed, there have been some fantastic changes happening in the downtown. Thanks to some funding assistance from the Main Street Saskatchewan Program and the local PA Downtown Business Improvement District, numerous property owners are revitalizing their storefronts.

The RNF Ventures building at the corner of Central Ave. and River St. West has received a complete makeover, both inside and out. The majority of this building’s outstanding architectural features were revitalized. The brickwork, arched windows and cornices were all restored. Intricate finishing details down to the mailbox, sign and lights all take this building back to its “glory days”.

Immediately adjacent to the RNF Ventures Project is the Funky Fresh Bistro, which is wrapping up its revitalization. Windows, doors, stone & brickwork and new wood finishing are adding a whole new look to this new business. The soon-to-open Forever & Alwayz Chocolatez, attached to the Funky Fresh Bistro, will be sporting its new look as well.

The AODBT office windows along Central Avenue were replaced through the Main Street Program. Also replacing windows and doors was the Kenlar Building located in the unit block of 11th St. west. These new doors and windows will give this building a newer consistent look.

Our own PADBID office at 1105 Central has received its new fantastic look. The property owner, architect and contractor turned back the time clock and revitalized this building with the brick finish look that it had back in the 60’s. What a fabulous turnaround!

The Mary McAuley Law Firm building located at 102 11th St. East received local funding to assist with its unbelievable renovations. She not only transformed the exterior of the building but also did extensive landscaping to beautify the entire corner lot. No expense was spared on the interior renovations as well. Well done Mary!

There have been several other renovation projects to notice. A new look has been applied to the newly opened Surplus Furniture Warehouse building at the corner of 12th St and 1st Ave, west. Partner’s Furniture had a new sign installed along with interior renovations. Fresh Air Experience not only painted the side of their business but had a “turtle” mural painted on the back of their building that really brightens up the rear lane access area.

The outlook for downtown is bright with these rejuvenation projects that are occurring. Please feel free to stop in and see these great transformations.
