Bags and Sags

Sep 25, 2013 | 3:16 PM

Needing inspiration, I went to the Results Cosmetic & Wellness Therapies Facebook page and asked the Results friends what topic they wanted to read about this week.

One friend said she wanted to learn about dark circles and bags under the eyes. Another friend has lost weight and asked about skin sagging under the chin.

So, I bring you this week’s topic: Bags and Sags.

Bags
The skin in the eye area, along with the lips, is the thinnest skin on the face. These areas need extra love to look their best for many years. Dark circles under the eye are a byproduct of thin skin. Blood vessels close to the surface of the skin make the area look dark. To lighten up, we need to do two things: move the fluid that pools in those tiny blood vessels and thicken the skin above them. An eye product with peptides and/ or vitamin C will thicken the skin. Eye products with vitamin K and caffeine with strengthen blood vessels and disperse fluids. You might want two separate eye products to accomplish all of this. Use the vitamin K/ caffeine formula in the morning. Use the peptides/ vitamin C before bed.

Sags
In your thirties, forties, and later years, collagen production in the skin is slowing down. This means that weight loss can result in loose or hanging skin. The area under the jawbone, where the chinstrap of a helmet would sit, is called the submental. Skin can sag in this area and make us look like we have a double chin or a fat or loose neck.

Things that can help – slightly – for sagging, loose or hanging skin: being well hydrated and using skincare products with retinol. Retinol comes from vitamin A – a very important skin vitamin. It encourages cellular turnover which can lead to a little tiny bit of tightening.

The thing that can help – significantly – is monopolar radiofrequency skin tightening. The best brand of machine out there is Exilis (“ex ill is”). This machine is Health Canada approved for skin tightening on face, neck and body. It’s also Health Canada approved for fat reduction on body. This in office procedure is way cheaper than a neck lift and can be done on your schedule and budget. It takes 4 to 6 treatments to tighten the neck and results are visible and substantial.

So there you have it…everything you ever wanted to know about bags (keep it clean, folks) and sags.

Thank you to the Results Facebook friends who gave me inspiration.

I have free tickets to the Woman’s World tradeshow in Saskatoon, October 4, 5, and 6 that I will be contacting you about, to see if you’d like some.
