Warm Bodies

Feb 4, 2013 | 7:19 AM

“Night of the Living Dead” meets “Romeo and Juliet”, “Warm Bodies” is a pretty decent movie overall. I was expecting to see a cheesy “Twilight” rip off, but instead was treated to a very funny and entertaining movie. Don’t get me wrong, there are still elements of that cheesy teen romance stuff that will make you groan(somewhat appropriate for a zombie movie I guess) but there are also lots of laughs for audiences of all ages. This may actually be the first movie in my recollection that is told through the point of view of the zombie, which results in some great one-liners.

Like many of its predecessor, this zombie movie is built around the premise that there was some kind of huge outbreak that killed off most of the human population, turning all the infected humans into zombies. The movie opens with the male lead talking about what he does every day, wandering around the airport and occasionally bumping into other zombies (yeah I laughed too). Eventually “R” stumbles upon the human woman that would change his life, or should I say gives him life. Somehow being with her helps get his heart pumping (there’s the cheese I was talking about). This strange miracle also seems to affect the other zombies, who also begin to change. All they have to do is convince the humans not to shoot them, and fight off some creatures called “bonies”. Wow this does sound like a really bad movie on paper but trust me folks it is worth watching.

If you born in the 70’s or 80’s you will really appreciate the soundtrack to this movie. “R” collects records as a hobby. Why would a zombie collect records you ask? Why would he not just get an ipod? The answer makes more sense than the question, “because they sound better.
