The Amazing Spiderman

Jul 8, 2012 | 10:15 AM

“The Amazing Spiderman”offers a new spin on the classic tale (yeah I know I couldn't resist). This is a really good movie all around. There are some cool special effects, but what I enjoyed most was the emphasis on the character development. This should please all the loyal comic book fans.

Andrew Garfield takes over the role of the web slinger. Despite my early skepticism I felt he did a really great job. Sally Field does an awesome job as Aunt May, and Martin Sheen is Uncle Ben. Denis Leary is New York's top cop and father of Peter's love interest.

What separates this movie the most from that other Spiderman movie is there is more information given about Peters parents. How Peter becomes Spiderman is also told a little differently.

This movie is definitely one you can take your kids to. The lizard may appear a little frightening perhaps for the younger ones but otherwise this is a safe movie.

If you have issues with motion sickness you may want to stay away from the 3D option. Some of the web slinging and wall climbing scenes move pretty fast.

If I have one critique, and my comic book geek buddy who came with me agrees, it would be that one important Spiderman line was left out: “With great power comes great responsibility.” Uncle Ben alludes to it in one scene but never actually says it

When you do go see Spiderman, be sure to sit through the end credits. I would assume that most people would have caught on by now after watching the other Marvel movies but there were still some people leaving prematurely when I went to see it last Thursday.
