If you’ve ever dealt with a large corporation, you know how frustrating it can be to get the help you need. A call to a 1-800 number means being put on hold for 30 minutes only to be transferred 4 more times without your issue being resolved.  It is a completely different experience when you shop local. Local owners know their customers. Local owners have a vested interest in the community and local owners can offer a personalized shopping experience you usually can’t find with chain locations.

That attentive service and flexibility is exemplified in Darryl and Laurie Nyirfa, owners of Country Comfort Bedrooms & Fine Furniture – the BOB Award winner for ‘Best Locally Owned Shop.’

“It is nice to get the recognition,” said Darryl. “There are many other very well-run businesses that are locally owned so it is good to be in that company.

The Nyirfas specialize in solid wood, Canadian made furniture, home décor, bedding and accessories. Between them, the couple has more than 50 years of furniture sales experience.

“We’re competitive and our service speaks for itself. We have a lot of customers second and third generation because their parents bought from us and had a good experience and so now they’re coming back and also telling their kids to come here,” Darryl said.

Country Comfort Bedrooms & Fine Furniture try to personalize the shopping experience by determining the needs and the budget of their clients. They’ll spend extra time helping to carefully craft a completed look by suggesting elements of interior design.

“It is fun and exciting to help them pick their tables and bedroom suites and then hear back from them on the final product with a picture they show us,” said Laurie.

Despite their successes, the Nyirfas said being a locally owned business doesn’t come without its challenges.

“If you’re not open, you’re not doing business,” said Darryl. “You have to work a lot. It is 6 days a week…but we’re here to help and serve this community. The benefit to the community is they are always talking to the owners.”

Country Comfort Bedrooms & Fine Furniture is the recipient of three other BOB awards this year including ‘Best Interior Decorating’, ‘Best Furniture and Home Décor’ and ‘Best Mattress Store.’

Darryl summed up their achievements by saying they like to ‘make people happy.’

“When I go to the grocery store and meet someone there and they just purchased a mattress from me and they tell me they love it and they are sleeping great…that makes me happy.”
