Sep 15, 2017 | 7:00 PM

Whether you’re looking for a fun new place for date night, or if you’re after some live, local entertainment, the Rock Trout Café has it all.

If you’re after a relaxing night of entertainment, look no further.

Walking down Central Avenue, you can hear the good times from down the street. A stage is set up in the café for entertainers – Chef and owner Krishna Tamang seeks to help local musicians become comfortable with being on a stage.

“This is a place where people feel safe and they love the ambience,” Tamang said. “We have a very good nightlife over here, everybody’s enjoyed it over the last year and a half.”

Entertainers from across Canada are also make frequent stops in the Gateway to the North to play on the Rock Trout’s stage. Tamang said he already has at least three musical acts booked in the fall months.

Open mic nights are hosted every Thursday, but it’s not just for musicians.

Tamang said he’s open to hosting comedians as well as poets who wish to read their works. He’s even considering the possibility of karaoke nights, all in the name of continuing to provide the best night life experience in the city.

“We want to stay on top of it, we want to keep that same [atmosphere],” Tamang said. “We just want to be a success in this downtown area. Rock Trout has a different kind of clientele and everybody loves the place.”

Tamang is able to cater to the needs of musical shows because his door is open until at least 10 P.M. and if the atmosphere is right, he’s willing to leave the door open longer. The bar is fully licenced to serve alcohol, so the adult beverages will keep flowing until the doors are locked.

With fresh food, featuring locally sourced ingredients and a seasonally changing menu, you’re sure to find something you like to eat on the Rock Trout Café’s menu.

Tamang said he’s spent many years in the kitchen and he’s driven by providing quality service and food to all of the café’s patrons. He seeks to blend eastern and western cuisines in ways to appeal to every palette, while offering dishes which aren’t typically found in other Prince Albert restaurants.

“We took our menu from all over the place,” Tamang said. “A little bit from Thailand, a little bit from Nepal, it’s kind of a multicultural kitchen from all over the world.”

Dishes like the tandoori chicken, fresh off the tandoori oven, or momo’s from Nepal are cooked in the Rock Trout Café’s kitchen, and brought to your table steaming and fresh.

“We just wanna be something different than others… If you have something different, then people will say ‘okay, let’s go there, it’s the only place we can get that,’” Tamang said.

If you’re after something more familiar or local, fish from northern Saskatchewan lakes are brought in daily to serve. Tamang even incorporates game meats into his dishes; one of his takes on a perogy dish combines elk meat and mushrooms for a savoury celebration.

Tamang is comfortable cooking for all dietary needs, so if you’re gluten free, vegan, vegetarian, or allergic to ingredients you can feel comfortable knowing your meal is cooked appropriately. Rock Trout will also cater events from a small office meeting to a full staff Party retirement or Christmas party from 5 or 6 people right up to 50 or more.
