Best Fitness Trainer : Christina Vis at Hillside

Jul 25, 2017 | 12:00 AM

Your fitness future deserves the best trainer:

When you’re working with a personal trainer, you don’t want someone who just works out a lot and knows how to assemble a workout routine. You want Hillside Physical Health and Fitness trainer Christina Vis, who’s university trained and certified to get you back on your feet.

For her, it’s all about the attitude she brings to Hillside.

“Being supportive of the client is the number one thing that makes this work,” she says. “If you’re not supportive, if you’re not 100 per cent behind the person you’re working with, you aren’t going to achieve the desired results no matter how hard you work.”

It’s a two-way relationship between trainer and client.

She says her own enthusiasm feeds off the strong and determined vibes coming from her clients.

“It’s definitely an intense relationship. And it really helps because often people are coming in after a long day of work, and exercising isn’t their number one priority right then. But with a great attitude and a lot of enthusiasm, everything clicks into place.”

Sometimes she herself after a long day of work isn’t bringing 100 per cent to the mat, but a great attitude from her clients boosts her right back up.

“There’s nothing better than seeing someone reach their goals, whether it’s doing a certain number of squats or being able to bend over and reach their toes without feeling any pain,” she says. “Seeing that certainly brings my spirits up, which in turn brings their spirits up and it keeps going on towards success.”

A session with Christina is high-energy and fun, giving you the drive to achieve your goals and actually want to go to the gym.

“Who says going to the gym has to be all work and no play?” she asks.

One of the ways Christina keeps her energy up is by working extensively with bright young energetic athletes from local sports teams. She works with the Midget AAA A&W bears and high school teams to keep them in tip-top shape for their games.

“Sometimes they definitely give me a workout,” she says.

As with everyone at Hillside, community and trust are what’s essential to Christina.

It’s definitely a great feeling knowing I’ve helped people get in shape and that they’ve told others about the work we do here.”
