Christina Thoen

Christina Thoen, painter and owner of Christina’s Framing, Gallery & Art School in Prince Albert knew from a young age that she wanted to be an artist.

At 10 years old after finding an old painting of her mothers Thoen said she made up her mind then that she would never let anything prevent her from finding the time to do what she loves.

“I promised myself that no matter how busy I got, no matter how many children I had or how busy my work was that I would always paint because I knew that incredible joy that it brings,” said Thoen.

Thoen, who has a Bachelor of Education Degree with an Arts Major, retired from teaching in 1995 so she could fully embrace her artistic interests and open her own gallery. Since then Thoen has continued to pursue her life dream of being an artist, she has been selling her artwork for over 25 years and Christina’s Gallery & Art School has been open now for 20 years.

Teaching is still a passion of Thoen’s and she still plays a part in instilling a love of art in about 150 art students per year in the Prince Albert region through her year-long classes and weekend workshops that she offers for both children and adults at her gallery and studio at 625 Branion Drive.

Thoen has a passion for painting large-scale paintings with colourful palettes. She works in a variety of mediums and with a variety of subjects including still life, street scenes, landscapes, trees, Saskatchewan skies and people. Thoen has been commissioned for various projects, her art lights up the walls of boardrooms, business entrances and numerous private homes.

“I think art is important in people lives because it adds that excitement and energy into a place whether it is their business or their home, it’s adding some positive energy into it,” she said.

In 2013 Prairies North magazine labeled Thoen’s studio as the best place to buy art in Saskatchewan. And in 2015 she was voted as the Best Local Artist in paNOW’s Best of the Best Awards.

Recently Thoen also wrote a book titled “Life… Create Your Own Masterpiece!” that will be available to order online on her website  . Thoen’s book uses the analogies of the theory in creating beautiful artwork and describes how to create the ultimate masterpiece — the life of your dreams!
