Best Bike Repair : Gene’s Sports Excellence

Gene’s Sports Excellence specializes in cycling and is not only the best place to shop for a bike in Prince Albert but is also the best place to bring it in when it needs to be repaired.

“We definitely do the bulk of the city’s bike repair and we are gracious that we have a wonderful mechanic,” said Chad Levesque, a manager at Gene’s Sports Excellence.

George Sutherland otherwise referred to as Poncho by the staff at Gene’s Sports Excellence has been repairing bikes at the shop for approximately 10 years. Levesque describes him as an employee that lives and breathes bikes.

“Plus 40, minus 40, poncho rides his bike,” said Levesque. “He is just a hard core bike guy and he knows everything about bikes, rarely do we see him get stumped on a question and he can custom modify repairs.”

Levesque said Poncho can build wheels and has rigged up bikes with custom brakes in the past.

“It is about going that extra mile to makes things happen for a customer; he is just amazing with bikes. He knows everything, he can fix everything, and he does a really good job.”

Levesque said it is important to have someone that is passionate about bikes and bike repair on their roster and they are fortunate enough to have just that.

“Poncho can fix anything and everything whether it’s brand new late cutting edge technology that is just coming out or if you got something back from the 1950’s… poncho knows about it,” he said. “So that is the beauty about it he has the knowledge to service right from the early days of the cycling industry all the way up to todays technology.”

Levesque said customers at Gene’s Sports Excellence that purchased a bike from their store have priority when they bring their bike in to be repaired.

“We want to make sure we service our cliental that purchase through us first and foremost,” he said.  “So when you are buying a bike with us you have that back end service as well that comes with the purchase, plus we always offer a free warranty tune up to our cliental with a new bike purchase.”

Gene’s Sports Excellence first opened its doors in 1972 and since then the store has grown into three locations and changed its name from Gene’s Cycling & Sport to Gene’s Sports Excellence.
