Stanley trial to see tight court security, large jury summoned

The Gerald Stanley trial is set to start next week and will feature tight security inside and outside the Court of Queen's Bench in Battleford, as well as a large pool of several hundred potential jurors.

PM Trudeau visits North Battleford for meet and greet rally

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau visited North Battleford Thursday for a brief meet and greet, and to show his support for Larry Ingram - the local Liberal candidate in the upcoming Battlefords-Lloydminster byelection. 

About 900 people packed the Dekker Centre to attend the event.

Judge named in Stanley trial, voir dire being held

The name of the judge has been announced for the second-degree murder case involving Gerald Stanley.

Chief Justice Martel Popescul, who is the chief justice for the province, will preside in a trial by jury at Court of Queen's Bench in the town of Battleford.

Culprits sought for dumping dead geese and ducks on roadside

Sasktip is asking for the public's help in catching the culprit or culprits responsible for killing and dumping 73 dead migratory birds by a roadside near Unity.

Officers believe the incident took place between the evening of Oct. 17 and the morning of Oct. 18.

Accused in fatal crash remanded until Monday

Brandon Stucka has been remanded to custody in Saskatoon until his next appearance on Monday, October 2 in North Battleford. Stucka is facing several charges related to a fatal crash Sept. 22 near Lloydminster that killed three women.

The scent of the ceremonial pipe mingled with warm stew and duck soup filled the hall for the memorial feast to honour Colten Boushie at Red Pheasant Cree Nation’s community hall Wednesday afternoon, marking the one-year anniversary since Boushie’s death.

Major snowstorm expected for the region Thursday night

Environment Canada is predicting a major storm for the area, including the Battlefords, Meadow Lake and Prince Albert.
