Jared Britton’s trial begins in Wisconsin

A young hockey player from Regina has his day in American court, starting Tuesday. The former player with the Pat Canadians is facing charges related to a death in Wisconsin.

It started as a night out with teammates.

Jared Britton and several other Blue Devil players were hitting the bars in Wisconsin last fall but a disagreement erupted between Britton and 22-year-old Bradley Simon.

Simon died later that night when he fell into a concrete wall outside the bar while riding a bike. Wisconsin police think he was pushed.

Britton is charged with felony murder and aggravated battery. Britton and several others have also been named in a wrongful death suit by Simon's parents.
