Farm World employees will be sporting blue ties this month.

It’s for a campaign called “The Blue Tie Event,” which the farm dealership is spear-heading to raise funds and awareness about prostate cancer.

In 2010, an estimated 24,600 men will be diagnosed with the cancer and 4,300 will die of it.

CEO, Tex Prete said, it’s those statistics that convinced him to get involved.

“Definitely it impacts our demographic of people that we typically sell to. A lot of our producers out there are in the age group that could be susceptible to this cancer,” he said

During November, the farm implement dealer will auction off a tractor and sell blue ties at their locations in Prince Albert, Kinistino and Humboldt.

“From an employee stand point, (we want them) talking about it. We are going to have several employees wearing the blue ties to get people, when they come in, to ask about it and try to encourage them to donate to the cause,” said Prete.

Farm World's initiative coincides with Movember, which is the global fundraiser where men grow moustaches in support of the cause.

Prete admits there will be some new facial hair around the office.

“Well, I’ve already committed … to growing a moustache. I’m not sure if my wife knows about that yet, but that’s ok,” he chuckled.
