“Moose on the Loose” campaign launched

Jun 20, 2011 | 11:53 AM

With the moose population in Saskatchewan on the rise the Saskatchewan Wildlife Federation (SWF) and SGI have teamed up on a new campaign called “Moose on the Loose”.

The campaign is geared at drivers. In 2010, there were eight instances where people were killed in car crashes involving wildlife. Four of those cases were involving moose. SGI also spent more than $40 million repairing vehicles.

“Because they are becoming a much more relevant percentage in the number of collisions we wanted to bring that variable to people’s attention,” said Darrell Crabbe with (SWF).

Crabbe said the animals are now more commonly found on the edge of cities and looking for food near dugouts and streams. It’s those roaming tendencies that have Crabbe asking drivers to be on the lookout.
