Pineview naming rights for donation

Jun 20, 2011 | 6:34 AM

There could be a new name for Pineview Terrace Lodge, when it moves into the yet-to-be built new facility.

The Prince Albert Parkland Health Region board decided they would allow the fundraising committee for the new care home to offer the naming rights for the building in exchange for a contribution of a minimum of $1 million.

“The board decision was simply to allow some flexibility to the Pineview project. Not saying the name will change, simply saying the name could change if a suitable donor is found,” said Gord Dobrowolsky, chairman of the board.

This money is to come from an individual or a group of individuals to help the City of Prince Albert meet their $3.34 million share.

“In previous campaigns it was quite public and with literally thousands of people contributing. I don’t see that happening in this case, although it could, but I don’t see it happening in this case right now,” Dobrowolsky said.

The health region has also been approaching the other municipalities and communities in the surrounding area for their portion of the local share.

Five of the 14 communities from where contribution are needed, have officially committed their finances — the City of Prince Albert, Resort Village of Candle Lake, Rural Municipality of Garden River, Rural Municipality of Lakeland and the Village of Paddockwood.

There is a real need for the facility, said John Piggott, vice-president of operations for the health region.

“Unless we can somehow keep pace with the need, then we have no alternative than to say that we have place for you to stay … or you’ll have to take a first available bed,” he said.

The communities realize the need, Piggott said.

In some cases though the money has been allocated for other things, so there is some hesitation, he said.

The good news is the government said the money doesn’t need to be in place until 2012 and it can be contributed over three years, Dobrowolsky said.
