UPDATE: Summit Run a great success

The 7th Annual Summit Run finished up this morning with remarkable success.

More than 500 participants turned out to run, walk and jog along the banks of the North Saskatchewan River.

Runners could choose between 5, 10, and 21.1 km courses depending on the challenge they wanted to face.

In the 21.1 km half-marathon, the one with the overall best time was Ken Thomas of Prince Albert.

He said he had been training for several weeks and now that he came out on top he was really proud of his work.

“It’s something I’ve been doing since I was a little boy,” he said. “It’s a healthy hobby and it’s paid off.”

He said running was the perfect way to deal with stress and stay fit at the same time.

Not only was it a success for Thomas, it was also one for the more than 100 volunteers who helped make the event possible.

Race organizer Lisa Evans said they’ve helped make the event the as it great as it was.

“I’m ecstatic to see people enjoying the race and seeing the look on the kids’ fares,” she said. “It’s all worth effort we put into the race.”

“Each year, we try and build on things that we have done well and look at feedback from runners to improve.”

She said other than the rain, it all went off without a hitch.
