Major concert planned for Regina has been cancelled

It might happen in the future, but there will be no big summer event at Mosaic Stadium in Regina this year.

Organizers said a summer concert, which sources have told paNOW was supposed to be headlined by former Beatle Paul McCartney, was all but confirmed until Thursday afternoon.

Neil Donnelly, with Evraz Place, still won't confirm that McCartney is the artist in question, but hesaid he was contacted by the artist's management Thursday. He was informed the concert that was going to be announced on Friday can no longer happen.

“It just turns out the artist we were working on is no longer available. They've had something come up in their schedule for other commitments,” said Donnelly.

It's heartbreaking news for Donnelly, who concedes an incredible amount of time and effort went into trying to book the show.

“For all intents and purposes this was a confirmed event. We were working at every level with the artist and promoters,” said Donnelly, adding that marketing, production and ticket sales were all ready to go.

Donnelly stresses there won't be a loss on the effort, as no money or deposits were paid out. He also insists the venue itself is not to blame.

“The artist and the promoters, they were here for site inspections and we've been working with them for a long time on this. We're certainly hopeful that at some point in the future we can reschedule this,” said Donnelly.

However due to the small number of available dates that such a production could fit into, another date likely won't be available until next year.
