Brown goes to town at Northerns

Jun 5, 2011 | 4:39 PM

Kim Brown led from wire to wire to win the Northern Women's Amateur Golf title at Cooke Municipal Golf Course.

The Prince Albert native who now resides in Saskatoon blew away a strong field with rounds of 75 and 74.

Her 149 total for the 36 hole event was seven shots better than runner up Crystal Weiss.

Brown said there were no turning points as she played a strong overall game throughout the two rounds.

The weather and course conditions were ideal Sunday and feels walking the course helped her cope with a chilly opening round on Saturday, she said.

Defending champion Kathy Ziglo of Saskatoon was third another eight shots back of Weiss and P.A.'s Pauline McDougall who closed out her tournament by sinking a long putt from the front of the green was fourth another eight shots back of Ziglo.

Janet George fired rounds of 87 and 88 to win the Senior title.

Here are the two round totals in the championship flyte.

1 Kim Brown 75 + 74 = 149

2 Crystal Weiss 78 + 78 = 156

3 Kathy Ziglo 81 + 83 = 164

4 Pauline Mcdougall 85 + 87 = 172
