Decaying riverside wall in partial collapse

Jul 19, 2018 | 4:07 PM

The city of P.A. is recommending the public stay clear of the old railway tie wall at the boat launch on the riverside. A section on top appears to have suddenly fallen away but a city official said there was no immediate risk.

paNOW was contacted about the partial collapse Thursday by a local resident who noticed the damage and was concerned about public safety. We immediately reported things to the city’s public works department who went to take a look.

“The ground is moving, although it’s not a safety concern at this time,” parks manager Tim Yeaman told paNOW after taking a look at things. “We’re going to have to consider replacing that wall in the near future but it does not pose a safety concern to anybody.”

Yeaman said he walked on top of the grassy bank that is retained by the wall and figured the weight of the hill was causing the problem, although an engineer would be brought in to take a detailed look.
