P.A. RCMP arrest inmate after assault, victim deceased

Jul 5, 2018 | 4:32 PM

One man is dead and an inmate is facing a robbery with violence charge after an assault in Red Wing.

The incident happened on June 25 around 8:43 p.m. Investigators determined the suspect arrived in a truck outside a residence before he assaulted the male victim. He then took the man’s watch before leaving the scene.

Once his assailant left, the victim walked back into his house where he became unresponsive. He was later taken to hospital where he was pronounced deceased. Police say at this time there is no indication the assault caused his death as the autopsy findings point to a medical issue. But police say the investigation remains ongoing with help from the RCMP General Investigation Section, Forensic Identification Section and the Provincial Coroner’s office.

Police have not released the victim’s name.

Since the event, Prince Albert Mounties arrested Sheldon Hilliard Goodvoice, 21 and charged him with robbery with violence.

At the time of the incident, Goodvoice was an inmate serving a provincial corrections term at a community training residence in Prince Albert. During that term, he was monitored and under conditions.

He has since been remanded into custody and is scheduled to appear in court tomorrow, July 6.

At this stage Goodvoice is presumed innocent.
