P.A. Water Crane to be shut down next week

Jun 2, 2018 | 2:00 PM

Residents and businesses who need to access large volumes of water from the city of Prince Albert will have to look elsewhere later this month.

The water crane facility at Marquis Road will be temporarily shut down for 11 days from June 7 through June 17 because of upgrades to the pumping station.

The crane allows users who are registered with the city to fill their water tanks on a card pay system.

“[It’s for ] people who have cisterns for their own potable water use or businesses who might use water for washing cars, boats, etc, in their own lots, or anybody who doesn’t have access to the city’s water supply,” the city’s Engineering Services Manager Jeff DaSilva told paNOW.

DaSilva said it was important to get the word out to users whenever there’s a disruption like this.

“There are people for whom this is their main source of water so we wanted to get the word out ahead of time,” he said.

DaSilva said there are other places to fill water tanks. The Prince Albert Rural Water Utility has the Byrne Tank Fill east of the city on Highway 302.

There is also the White Star Water Crane west of Highway 2 on the White Star grid. Although that facility was down for maintenance it was expected to be operational before the Marquis Road water crane’s temporary shut down.
