Prince Albert Police arrested an impaired driver Friday morning after officers found him asleep behind the wheel of a running truck which was parked in the middle of the street.

According to police, officers were dispatched to the 100-block of 21st St. W. shortly before 7 a.m. May 25 after receiving a tip from the public. When they arrived, officers found a black truck parked in the middle of the street. The driver was passed out behind the wheel and the engine was running, police said, and there was “evidence of alcohol consumption in the vehicle.”

The driver, a 21-year-old man from Prince Albert, was arrested and taken to the police station where he failed breathalyzer tests, police said. He was charged with impaired care and control of a motor vehicle and driving with a blood-alcohol level exceeding .08.

The driver was later released from custody, and is set to make his first court appearance June 25. He is presumed innocent at this stage.
