Family dog injured during attempted break-in

May 11, 2018 | 2:00 PM

A family’s dog was injured during an attempted break-in this past week on a property south of Prince Albert.

According to the homeowner, an unknown person drove onto her property and injured the dog May 2. The owner told paNOW she did not know if the dog was hit by a vehicle or kicked. According to the homeowner, the intruder attempted to enter her home by kicking in the door but ran off after seeing the security cameras. The truck used to drive onto the property was stolen from Prince Albert and later discovered abandoned in a nearby field, RCMP said.

The incident was one of several recent crimes in the area. In a separate incident from May 9, a person allegedly entered a property in the same area but was scared off after the owner fired a warning shot into the air. RCMP confiscated the man’s gun and the incident is under investigation. paNOW has attempted to contact that property owner for comment.

Prince Albert RCMP Sgt. Lyle Korzak said police have seen increased activity now that warmer temperatures have arrived. He said RCMP have stepped up their rural patrols in response.
