Parkland Ambulance: Gear up properly before quadding

May 7, 2018 | 12:00 PM

It’s a reminder to always wear proper gear while quadding this season.

An 11-year-old girl is in good condition after she fell from an ATV and received injuries in Muskoday Friday.

Lyle Karasiuk with Parkland Ambulance said it’s important to gear up properly before riding.

“Often people will jump on the ATV when they’re at the lake or they’re scooting around the yard. They just get on in a T-shirt, shorts and flip-flops and it’s a recipe for disaster. Especially if you’re not properly dressed,” he said.

The girl wore a helmet at the time which Karasiuk said is the first piece of gear to bring on an ATV trip.

“First and foremost is the helmet. Secondly, it should be long pants and proper footwear. You should also have gloves if you’re out in the bush,” he said.

Karasiuk also recommends if you’re going to be riding with your family or more than one person, to always bring a first aid kit and a changed cell phone for any dire emergencies that may arise.

If you’re out on public trails, he said to follow the rules of the road.

In addition, Saskatchewan Wildfire officials are recommending to not park your ATV in long grass as the possibility for wildfires in Saskatchewan is high.
