P.A. Paramedics beat firefighters in McHappy Day challenge

May 3, 2018 | 12:00 PM

Two groups of Prince Albert’s first responders went head-to-head yesterday to see who could raise more money for Ronald McDonald House charities.

Yesterday was McHappy Day at McDonald’s restaurants, an annual fundraiser which sees proceeds from the sales of certain menu items donated to the children’s charities. To help bring the fundraising totals even higher, paramedics from Parkland Ambulance Care challenged the Prince Albert Fire Department to a friendly competition. Members of both groups washed windows at McDonald’s locations in Prince Albert to see who could raise the most money.

“Congratulations to our volunteer paramedics JJ, Levon, Eden and Jessica who raised $1,068,” Parkland Ambulance Spokesperson Lyle Karasiuk said in a statement announcing the winners. “We are pleased to say we beat the firefighters, who raised $1,060.60.”

Karasiuk thanked the city for the generosity shown during the competition, and said the real winners of the competition are the kids who will benefit from the donations.
