Street sweeping, yard waste collection to begin in May

Apr 27, 2018 | 12:00 PM

Warm weather has finally arrived, and that means it’s time for some spring cleaning.

Street sweeping and yard waste collection programs both start early next month in Prince Albert. Street sweeping begins Monday, May 7. According to the city, workers will tackle Second Ave. W. and the downtown area first before moving on to other areas using the same priorities as snow removal. Motorists were reminded to maintain a safe distance from street sweeping equipment, as dust and debris can reduce visibility. According to the city, further information on the frequency and order of street sweeping will be released at a later time.

Yard waste collection is also set to start next month, with the first collection scheduled for May 14 in Areas 1 and 4. Areas 2 and 3 will have their first pickup May 22, and residents can find out which area they live in online.

According to the city, yard waste must be placed in paper bags, and must not be put out on the street until the collection program resumes for the year. Branches should be tied into bundles less than a metre in length and placed out for collection on the same day as recycling collection. Yard waste is also collected free of charge at the landfill.
