P.A. arts community prepares for annual showcase

Final preparations have begun for the annual Aurora Art Show and Sale, a showcase of Prince Albert’s artistic community.

Mary Mcleod, one of the artists and founding members involed, said it’s a very exciting event to be a part of.

“I think, because we are all artists, we can’t stop painting or creating, whether it’s pottery or photography, so it just gives us another outlet to work with,” she said.

A total of 11 artists have been gathered for this year’s event and they come from a wide range of disciplines including painting, photography, jewelry-making, and pottery. Cheryl Ring, who is well known for her pottery, has been involved with the show for seven years.

“It’s such a pleasure to be associated with such a cohesive, hard-working, dedicated group and diverse, very diverse,” Ring said.

Preparation for this year’s show began almost immediately after last year’s event. The artists coordinate workshops throughout the year and collaborate on new ideas for the show. Ring said it’s really nice to see everyone’s pieces come to completion.

“We may have seen pieces started, or technically finished and signed in the studio, but the next step is framing and hanging and presentation,” she said.

For her, Ring said the Aurora Art Show and Sale is all about spending time with family and celebrating the area’s arts community.

Tickets for the event Sunday are $12 and there will be wine and cheese offered inside. Proceeds from the art auction go to help local, budding artists. The money raised last year was given to the Carlton high school art students.

The event is scheduled for Sunday night, 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Prince Albert Arts Centre.
