Kelly joins AHL’s Belleville Senators

Apr 4, 2018 | 3:05 PM

Fresh off Tuesday night’s game seven loss to the Moose Jaw Warriors, Prince Albert Raider forward Parker Kelly has learned that his season will continue with the Belleville Senators of the American Hockey League (AHL).

Just prior to the 2017-18 season, Kelly signed an entry-level contract with the Ottawa Senators before re-joining the Raiders. Now that his season in Prince Albert is over, he’ll have the opportunity to experience professional hockey at the AHL level with the big club’s minor league affiliate.

“It should be fun, should be pretty cool to go learn from some of those older guys and see what they have, I’m really excited to see what it brings,” said Kelly.

The Camrose, Alta., native set new career highs in every area this year, scoring 29 goals and 59 points in 69 games. The speedy forward also chipped in with three goals and an assist in seven postseason games against the Warriors.

“I’m pretty happy with my year, lots of pretty neat things happened. I can’t thank the coaches enough. They gave me an opportunity and they’re probably one of the biggest reasons I am where I am today,” said Kelly before praising his teammates for helping him find success both personally and as a team.

“Collectively, this year was probably one of the funnest years I’ve had and one that I’ll cherish forever.”

Kelly will travel to Belleville, Ont., on Thursday and will be available for the Senators’ final five games of the regular season beginning Saturday night in Rochester, N.Y.
