Community Alcohol Strategy work continues with new website

The Prince Albert Community Alcohol Strategy has a new website and the team behind the project says awareness is building about the importance of responsible alcohol use.

The Community Alcohol Strategy Steering Committee (CASSC) launched a new website earlier this week with information about the project and work in the community. Fern Fernie, a member of the steering committee, said the new site includes a video about the committee’s goals, and is one more way to continue building awareness about the impacts of alcohol abuse.

Since the first meeting in 2015, the Community Alcohol Strategy worked to partner with local organizations to promote their mandate. In the last couple years, the CASSC worked to promote programs such as the Serve it Right course and participated in numerous community events including the Street Fair, Winter Festival, Family Expo and the local Farmers Market.

“We’re gradually spreading out and making things known, and I think people are seeing some value in what we’re doing,” Fernie told paNOW. “We have a whole list of successes.”

Brian Howell, manager with River Bank Development, said the committee works with the province and regulatory agencies to promote responsible alcohol consumption.

“I think there’s been some strong moves around increasing regulations, working with Saskatchewan Liquor and Gaming, and the police through the bylaw officers to ensure that regulations around consumption are being enforced,” Howell said. “I think there’s been a lot of work done around publicizing some of the issues associated with alcohol and also publicizing and encouraging alcohol-free events.”

The CASSC project operates with three main goals, including promoting alcohol-free events, safe and responsible consumption of alcohol as well as support and intervention for those who need help. The new website can be found at www.paalcoholstrategy.ca
