P.A. rink with decisive victory to start mixed provincials

The opening draw of the 2018 Mixed Curling Provincials saw a Prince Albert rink slide away with a decisive victory.

Bruce Korte’s rink, featuring Prince Albert’s Robyn Despins, celebrated an 8-2 win over Saskatoon Sutherland’s team led by Ashley Thevenot after six ends. Korte and company led 6-0 after three ends despite not having the hammer—in large part to a steal of five in the second end.

In fact, they only had the hammer in the fifth end, scoring two.

That wasn’t the largest-margin victory of the day, as Regina’s Mark Lang defeated Saskatoon’s Travis Tokarz 11-1. Lang had a four-ender, then back-to-back steals of one and a whopping five to run away with the victory after five ends.
