‘Not to worry’: Chamber soon to begin hunt for new CEO

Mar 19, 2018 | 5:00 PM

After a Friday night email announcing the termination of CEO Kelvin Pankiw, the Prince Albert and District Chamber of Commerce is telling its members not to worry.

“The Chamber is in good hands,” Board of Directors Chair Meghan Mayer said Monday.

The email to members was short on details relating to the termination, saying only that it was “in the Chamber’s best interests to terminate Mr. Pankiw’s employment at this time.”

Mayer, when asked for more details, said Pankiw “really just wasn’t a great fit for the CEO.”

Pankiw took over the role from long-time CEO Larry Fladager Jan. 15.

Going forward, Mayer said the Board will act as management until a suitable replacement is found. She said plans are underway to begin the recruitment process shortly, but was unsure of a possible end date for the search.

“The Board has decided to be all hands on deck and make sure we follow all of the due procedure, which we did with Pankiw,” she said. “I think the steps we took were all the right steps. I think we will perhaps be more selective.”

Mayer said the loss of a CEO will not impact any upcoming events the Chamber had planned, such as this Thursday’s Legacy Brunch or The Samuel McLeod Business Awards.
