Nominations open for 2018 Arts Hall of Fame

Mar 17, 2018 | 11:15 AM

The Prince Albert Arts Board is once again looking to recognize talented artists and contributors to the arts in the city.

Nominations have opened for the 2018 Hall of Fame in six categories: performing arts, visual arts, media arts, literature, creative arts and builder.

Arts & Cultural Coordinator Judy MacLeod Campbell said there are many contributors in the city worthy of the title. She said celebrating the work of locals helps to keep the momentum and motivation towards development in the arts alive.

“I don’t think anyone does enough to celebrate the successes and to recognize the efforts,” she said. “Be it sports or arts, we need to ensure we are recognizing and valuing all the contributions to the community.”

Past inductees include The Broadway North Theatre Company, Bernice Sayese, Diane and Roger Mann, Teena Polle, John V. Hicks, Malcolm Jenkins, Lynda Monahan and the Cotton Pickers, among others.  Last year, Mitch Holash, the Prince Albert Council for the Arts and the first arts volunteer, Teena Polle, were inducted.

MacLeod Campbell said it is always exciting to see the various names roll in and while the selection process for nominees can be difficult, she said it is a good problem to have.

Nomination forms can be found online or at the Arts Centre. MacLeod Campbell said the process is not overly daunting and just requires some background on the artist, their discipline and the impact they have had on the community and beyond. The decline to enter nominees is April 30.
