2018 Charity Steer supports Rose Garden Hospice

Local 4-H club members are gearing up for another Charity Steer auction, this time to raise funds for the Rose Garden Hospice in Prince Albert.

Brad Grassick, general leader with the West P.A. 4-H club, said club members will care for the steer over the next few months until it is auctioned off in June. The steer currently weighs about 1,000 pounds, he said.

Several local-area 4-H clubs get together each year to work on the Charity Steer project. Grassick said the West P.A. Club joined with 4-H clubs in Shellbrook, Canwood, Weldon and the Nipawin area to fund and choose this year’s charity steer.

Grassick said the project gives local youth an opportunity to give back to the wider community. The West P.A. Club has 21 members this year, ranging in age from six to 21, who also care for their own animals while participating in the charity fundraiser.
