Saskatchewan Roughriders continue to search for answers following another loss

The Saskatchewan Roughriders are in a major funk right now after Saturday's 39-24 loss to the Edmonton Eskimos.

The offense is struggling to find any consistency and the run defense was assaulted once again to the tune of 160 yards which puts the total for the past three weeks up to 575 yards allowed.

Defensive end Luc Mullinder says the team needs to get better, and it needs to happen fast.

“I don't know if there's complacency, or if everybody has this feeling of we have a home playoff game and we'll be alright in the playoffs,” said Mullinder.

“You just can't pick it up in the playoffs. We have to understand that. We have to be playing our best football heading into the playoffs. We need to pick it up.”

Head coach Ken Miller stresses the coaches need to be better as well and it all starts with him.

“Maybe I could have done something better from a motivational point of view,” said Miller.

“Certainly, I think there's a complacency with the fact we've sewn up a playoff game. Winning in football is a habit. We want to win, we want to play well, so when we do get to that home playoff game we're playing well at that time.”

Much has been made of the players maybe not showing enough emotion on the side line to try and spark the team up when things aren't going well.

Quarterback Darian Durant doesn't think the leaders on the team have to wear their heart on their sleeves to kill any complacency that may have settled in.

“I don't think we have to do that,” said Durant. “We're the same group that's used to success. We know how to handle it, we know what to do, and we'll do it.”

They'll have to find that success soon with only two games left and many questions that still need answering.

The Riders have Monday and Tuesday off before returning to the practice field Wednesday.
