Annual breakfast kicks off Telemiracle weekend

Mar 2, 2018 | 1:00 PM

You can’t beat a good breakfast for a good cause. Just ask Prince Albert’s Kinsmen and Kinettes.

More than two hundred people walked through the doors of Humpty’s Family Restaurant for the annual Kinsmen Telemiracle pancake breakfast Friday Morning. Members from the local clubs will head off to Regina tomorrow for the annual TV spectacular and Marcus Abrametz, Telemiracle chairperson for the Kinsmen club of P.A., said they’ll be live on CTV Sunday morning at 8:30 a.m. to hand over their cheque.

“We’ve been doing this as a club for the 42 years, since the Telemiracle’s inception,” Abrametz told paNOW. “It’s a great opportunity for folks to get involved and see what we do for the community and for Telemiracle. And, who doesn’t like pancakes?”

At five dollars a plate, plus additional donations, Abrametz said he was expecting over $1,000 to be raised from this year’s breakfast. There were a number of local fundraisers for Telemiracle besides the annual breakfast, he said, such as Tuesday evening’s event with the P.A. Raiders which brought in over $1,500.

Abrametz said the names of every donor will run along the bottom of TV screens during the telethon, and Telemiracle teddy bears will be mailed out to anyone who donates more than $142.

“It’s a great incentive for people to donate,” he said.

Humpty’s owner Robert Dunn said the breakfast has become a tradition for many Prince Albert residents.

“It’s good to give back to the community,” he said. “It doesn’t cost a lot for me to put it on, and it benefits so many organizations and it’s good exposure for the Kinsmen guys as well.”
