P.A. senior speaks out after robbery

Dec 15, 2017 | 4:00 PM

The woman who was robbed in broad daylight in the Cornerstone Shopping District on Tuesday, is telling paNOW her story.

The 69-year-old, who asked to remain nameless, said she was on her way to the OshKosh B’gosh store to buy Christmas presents for her granddaughter.

“I put my cane out and I started getting out of the car. I had my purse in my hand, and this woman comes approaching me from behind and she says ‘oh, I can help you,’” she said.

The senior told the stranger she didn’t need help, but the woman offered help a second time, then lunged for her purse.

“So we kinda scuffled. I grabbed her jacket which she pulled away and then I grabbed her scarf, but it was one of those infinity scarves so she just bent her head down and got away,” she said.

The culprit then ran to a nearby parked vehicle and sped off. She left behind the scarf and a knife, which had fallen out of her jacket during the scuffle. Fortunately the senior was not hurt. With no one else around at the time, she walked to the nearby OshKosh store and called police.

When asked what she remembered about her attacker, she said she couldn’t see the stranger’s face.

She still feels a bit numb over what happened and is concerned the same thing could happen to someone else in the area.

“I caution anyone… to take somebody shopping with you or take the minimal amount [of cash]. Put your keys or debit card in your pocket, don’t take your purse,” she said.

Police have provided a description of the suspect. She is described as 5’8″, approximately 150 lbs., roughly 45-years-old and was wearing a down felt jacket with a felt scarf.
