Dec 15, 2017 | 7:00 AM

He has been the Prince Albert Citizen of the Year, received the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal and received recognition from the Governor General of Canada for outstanding provincial and national contributions when he received the 2016 Sovereign’s Volunteer Medal. Now, Lyle Karasiuk of Parkland Ambulance can add recipient of the Senate of Canada’s 150 Medal to his list of achievements.

“I am so humbled and honoured to receive this recognition,” Karasiuk said. “This medal was awarded to so many deserving people across Canada who step outside of the boundaries of their community or province to give back.”

The medal celebrates the sesquicentennial anniversary of the first sitting of the Senate on Nov. 6, 1867. It also recognizes Canadians who are involved in their communities, whose generosity, dedication, volunteerism and hard work make their home towns a better place to live. Karasiuk received the medal during a special ceremony on Dec. 8 in Regina. He was nominated by Prince Albert Member of Parliament Randy Hoback.

“Each member of the Senate has the opportunity to select 12 recipients from all of the nominees. I am so grateful that Mr. Hoback submitted a nomination for me and Saskatchewan Senator David Tkachuk awarded me the medal,” Karasiuk said.

Karasiuk, affectionately known in Prince Albert as “Mr. Safety”, is a tireless advocate for the prevention of injuries and community education programs. He is currently the Director of Public Affairs and Support Services for Parkland Ambulance Care.

“The people I work with and on behalf of do some phenomenal work,” Karasiuk said. “They are the heartbeat of this community. Besides what they do to help save lives professionally, they are involved in our community as coaches or volunteers…so I am pleased and honoured that I have a chance to represent them.”

Among his long list of services and accomplishments, Karasiuk is one of only 17 national instructor trainers in Canada providing leadership as a Canadian Red Cross Master Instructor Trainer. He has sat on the board or directors or chaired events like the Prince Albert Relay for Life, Safe Communities Canada and the Canadian Special Olympic National Summer Games.
