Dec 11, 2017 | 11:00 AM

Four athletes from the Prince Albert area proved they could more than carry their weight in competition.

A provincial weightlifting competition called the Trench Fitness Open was held in Regina on Saturday. Athletes were scored on two separate lifts: the snatch and the clean and jerk. Both movements involve lifting a barbell over one’s head, but the entries differ.

Hanna Jacobson from Meath Park, who trains with Prince Albert Olympic, finished first in the junior female 48 kg. category. She recorded a 45 kg. snatch and a 60 kg. clean and jerk for a total score of 105 points.

Emily Gay, representing Sask Pro in Prince Albert, competed in the junior female 53 kg. category. She finished second with a score of 66. She recorded a 26 kg. snatch and a 40 kg. clean and jerk, tying her personal best.

Colton Anderson finished first in the junior male 58 kg. category. He recorded an 85 kg. snatch and a 105 kg. clean and jerk for a total score of 190.

Brett Sather, also representing Sask Pro, was the lone competitor in the junior male 85 kg. category. He recorded an 66 kg. snatch and a 92 kg. clean and jerk for a total score of 158.
